The Department hosted a Research Roundtable on Media Portrayal Stigma Among Gender and Sexual Minorities in South India by Dr. Jagadish Thaker, Massey University, New Zealand today. Dr. Thaker spoke about his work with the Alliance-CARE foundation regarding media portrayal and stigma among the sexual minorities. He discussed the creation of the stigma scale through a questionnaire developed after a qualitative pilot survey among the transgender community in three towns in Andhra Pradesh / Telangana.
Dr. J Jagadish Thaker is a Lecturer at the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing, Massey University, New Zealand. He specializes in the fields of science and climate change communication, health communication, and strategic communication campaigns. Prior to joining Massey, Dr. Thaker was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Communication and New Media, National University of Singapore (NUS).
