PROJECT TITLE Framing the Nation: Citizenship, Conflict and the Media in Contemporary India
PROJECT DESCRIPTION The aim of this research project is to study news media framing of the issue of citizenship around the CAA protests and the COVID pandemic in order to encourage greater accuracy and impartiality in reporting and better regulation of press and broadcast journalism. The secondary aim of this research is to build additional research capacity in the critical analysis of press and broadcast journalism and in research methodology in India.

1. Essential Minimum Qualifications:
● M.A. in Media Studies/Communication/Cultural Studies/Sociology/Political Science/Anthropology/English Literature with a good academic record
● Proficiency in reading and writing in English and Hindi
● Candidates with M.Phil/PhD in the above fields will be preferred. Those currently enrolled in M.Phil/PhD with UGC JRF and other fellowships need not apply.
2. Desirable Qualifications:
● Demonstrable experience in any prior research work
● Experience with or the ability to learn specialized software
● Experience with collaborative online tools
Women candidates and those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Minority groups are especially encouraged to apply
2. Job Description & Responsibilities:
● Participate in research design and methodology workshops
● Conduct literature reviews
● Collect and analyse data from sample newspaper reports, news channels, digital news platforms
● Write and analyse fieldnotes from workshops
● Conduct and transcribe interviews
● Organise and manage data
● Prepare, maintain, and update project website
● Assist in preparing progress reports
● Participate in the writing of journal articles, reports, and presentations
● Complete any other project tasks as assigned by the Project Investigators
3. Tenure/Period of Project: One year
4. Terms and Conditions:
i. The above position is purely on a temporary basis and will be valid for a duration of one
year from the date of joining. There is no provision for re-employment after the termination of
the project. The positions are on a full-time basis.
ii. Selected candidates can be discontinued owing to administrative reasons or reasons of
under-performance at any time by issue of one month’s notice. They may also leave the
assignment on their own volition, by giving one month’s notice.
iii. At the end of the contract period, the appointee has no right to claim any employment or
engagement in the University.
iv. Interviews will be conducted online. No TA/ DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
v. Interview committee reserves all rights to reject any or all candidates.
